2018 GT-1 AUSTRALIA CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 PREVIEW

Marc Mustang driver Jake Camilleri will be looking to extend his championship lead and add to his winning tally at Wakefield Park as the GT-1 Australia Series head to the circuit in country NSW on August 18/19. With three race victories to his credit, Camilleri has been the standout performer of season 2018, only missing out on victory in the opening race of the season to teammate Clint Harvey in another Marc Mustang.

Audi Performance Racing will be looking to turn around its fortunes at a track where it has found success before, most recently with Daniel Gaunt taking a pair of victories in Production Sports Car races back in May. Currently Matt Stoupas leads the way for the MPC cars with a pair of podium finishes at Morgan Park no doubt giving him confidence as he heads to Wakefield Park. Meanwhile, Rio Nugara and Rod Salmon will be looking to strike back after a pair of difficult opening rounds. Both Audis have shown pace during the endurance races, however incidents and mechanical failures have seen their title attacks take significant damage.

Mat Stoupas (Audi) has been the strongest performer from the Audi contingent so far this season.

In the Marc car competition for MARC 1 race vehicles, John Goodacre holds a handy lead. Despite losing a wheel before the start of the second race of the championship, a pair of top five finishes at Morgan Park have aided his championship position.

Jamie Arraton leads the Ferrari Challenge category heading to Wakefield Park. The Ferrari 458 driver battling with 458 compatriots John Nikolovski and Scott Hookey all weekend at Morgan Park, ultimately gaining the upper hand in both races. Mixed amongst the Ferraris, Rick Mensa took a ninth and fifth place in Queensland. Strengthening his hold on the GT3 Cup category, also moving himself into eight place in the outright championship.

Heading into Wakefield Park the battle is sure to tighten up at the top as GT-1 Australia returns to tracks where significant data has been collected previously by teams. The fight between Marc and Melbourne Performance Centre teams is sure to be intense.
