The 2018 RX8 Cup at the Australian Motor Racing Series has provided plenty of entertainment during their two rounds this season.
While Ric Shaw has been unstoppable at the front of the field, the growing throng of RX8s behind have been gaining ground. Round two saw some great close racing, as well as an opportunity for a new winner. Shaw had an atrocious start in even worse conditions in race four, and he dropped down the order. Aaron Prosser seized the opportunity and ran away out in front. However, Shaw’s prowess in an RX8 came to the fore, he would retake the lead before the mid-point of the race, never to be headed again.
With an average finishing position of fourth across the eight races completed in 2018, Stephen McLaine is the most likely to challenge Shaw with three rounds remaining. His form at round 2 yielded a pair of second and third place finishes. No doubt McLaine will be hoping that Prosser, or round 1 challenger William Harris, could assist with taking some points off Shaw at Wakefield Park.
At the time of writing, over fifteen RX8 Cup competitors are entered for the third round at Wakefield Park. No doubt they’ll produce some exciting racing across two days of competition.
